How to add an AI chat widget to your WordPress site
No theme editing and no developer needed — paste one script tag into a free WordPress plugin and you're done.
Why add Conversent to WordPress
Conversent answers visitor questions using only your own site's content, then shows up as a chat launcher in the corner of every page — without touching a single WordPress template file.

The script tag you'll be pasting looks like this:
<script src="https://api.conversent.app/embed/script?widget_id=YOUR_WIDGET_ID&token=YOUR_TOKEN" async></script>- 1
Install a header/footer plugin
From your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New and install WPCode (formerly “Insert Headers and Footers”) — the standard way to add third-party scripts without editing theme files. If your theme already has a built-in “Header/Footer Scripts” field (common in Astra, GeneratePress, Divi, and others), you can use that instead.

Open Header & Footer settings
Inside the plugin, go to Code Snippets → Header & Footer.
- 3
Paste the Conversent script
Copy your widget's script tag from your Conversent dashboard and paste it into the Footer box — keeping it in the footer avoids blocking the rest of the page from loading.
- 4
Save changes
Click Save Changes. The widget loads site-wide immediately — no publish step required. If your host uses aggressive caching (WP Engine, Kinsta, and similar managed hosts), do a hard refresh to see it appear right away.
How to verify it worked
Reload any page on your site and look for the chat launcher in the bottom corner of the screen.
